Why I’m Thankful for God

November is generally a month when people try to be more intentionally thankful (a good habit to cultivate). Yet, the act of giving thanks is not only for one month a year – it should be a hallmark of God’s people. In light of that, I thought I’d share this list with you:

Why I’m Thankful for God

  • He is a safe place – from the enemy yes but also to pour out my heart (Psalm 27:5, 62:8)
  • He never quits loving me (Psalm 136, Rom 8:38-39)
  • He gives new mercies each day (Lamentations 3:22-23)
  • He is patient with me (2 Peter 3:9, Romans 2:4)
  • Even in pain and heartache he works for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28)
  • He will never leave me – not even when I pass from this life to the next (Hebrews 13:5)
  • He knows me intimately (Psalm 139:1-16)
  • He has good plans for me (Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 2:10)
  • He gives me good work to fill my hands and heart with (Ephesians 2:10)
  • He made me just this way, with unique talents, quirks, personality – and He is pleased when I use them for His glory (1 Cor 12)
  • He never moves. He is an anchor, a rock, a fortress. (Psalm 18:2)
  • He gives me the gift of His presence, undistracted and uninterrupted (Matthew 28:20, Isaiah 43:2)
  • He gives me all that I need, even if it is not always all that I want (Phil 4:19, Psalm 23:1)
  • He listens to me (Psalm 40:1, Hebrews 4:16, 1 John 5:14)
  • He is a father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5)
  • His words are true and trustworthy. And though there may be pain and tears when they thrust to the quick, they also heal and bind up my wounds (John 17:17, Hebrews 4:12)
  • He is beautiful and glorious (Psalm 19:1, Hebrews 1:3)
  • He alone is God (Isaiah 44:6)
  • He grants hope – of heaven, of healing, of redemption (Romans 15:13, 12:12, Rev 21:1-4, Romans 8:24-25)
  • He covers me with his grace (2 Corinthians 12:9, Hebrews 4:16)
  • He is good (psalm 34:8, mark 10:18)
