Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. ~ 1 Peter 5:7
That little word “all” speaks so eloquently. Whether it is an overwhelming schedule, grief over a loved one, loneliness, discouragement, hurtful words – whatever it is our hearts are heavy with, we can cast our burdens on him. Why?
God is nearby: “Casting all your anxieties on him”
Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to “cast” them! I can’t cast things to someone on the other side of the world, but I can cast even the heaviest burdens if that someone is here with me, beside me!
God is big enough to hold it all: “Casting all your anxieties on him”
All of my anxieties, all of what I feel, all of what I pour out. There is no cap, no limit to what I can share with God, for he is my loving parent, caring deeply for the burdens on his children’s hearts.
I am loved by God: “because he cares for you”
God cares for you, beloved. He cares for me. He doesn’t just care about the “good” people (who exactly would they be?) or the elders or the preachers or the people who have clean houses or perfect children (wait – perhaps perfect children, like perfect people, don’t exist!). He cares for you and for me.
And it is here, in the shadow of the Almighty, that he invites us to lay down our burdens, our fears, our heartaches and be held by the One who cares deeply, fiercely for us. He alone can hold us close and help us carry our burdens.
May we rest in His presence today.
