Choosing Clothes

I remember the day my little girl came out of her room very proudly wearing a brightly cheerful (yet clashing) outfit, different patterns on top, bottom and even socks. She told me in explanation, “Mom, they match. They’re all unicorns.”

Who can argue with that kind of logic?

Our clothes often communicate more than we realize about ourselves and our lifestyle. Unicorns and princess dresses reflect the heart of one who still loves fantasy and imagination. Milk spitup on the shoulder reflects a mother who has held her child. Work boots reflect an active profession (or hobby).

But the attitudes and character we clothe ourselves with speak even more about who we are.

Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5

 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, Colossians 3:12

 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD;
my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10
