The rain came gently,
A steady patter after silence just before,
Soft droplets falling on leaves and parched earth,
A gentle lullaby
To soothe anxious hearts,
A reminder that God still speaks,
If only I will listen.
The rain crescendos,
A beautiful blur of noise,
Washing clean the earth.
Wash me clean, too, O Lord,
Of the grime of yesterday,
The sinful thoughts and actions,
The weights and worries I carry.
I stand alone before you,
In need of so much.
As I unclench my fists to cup the raindrops,
And watch them sparkle as they catch the light,
So let my heart release its burdens to you,
And catch the mercy and love and peace you offer.
You do not force me, Lord.
You wait for me to choose.
You stand at the door and knock.
Help me to open and let you in Lord,
Before it’s too late.
Help me submit,
To take Your will and not my own.
For you alone does my heart long.
You alone can heal what is inside me.
Help my heart not to wander,
But to cling to you,
Until the day you bring me
Home.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me. Psalms 63:8
