Mistakenly we too often live for the highs of life: a baby’s first steps, graduation, a first job. These are indeed moments to delight and rejoice in. But often we get so impatient in the in between times of our lives. In longing for those highs, we miss the glories and beauty available in the mundane moments: simple joys perhaps but no less precious or lovely.
- In the smell of dust after rain
- In the warmth and weight of a child pressed close
- In the joyful birdsong of early morning
- In the laughter shared between friends
- In the simplicity of a meal shared together
- In the sound of voices blended together in song
- In the love of a grandmother’s kiss
God’s fingerprints are all throughout our lives, his delight just as apparent in the seemingly small joys – the ordinary dailiness of our lives – as in the big things.
But only if we slow down enough to linger in those daily moments long enough to see.
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these Matthew 6:28-29
