The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shone. ~ Isaiah 9:2
It seems always to be darkest just before the dawn.
But You are the bringer of light.
When the night is long and the heart aches,
When all earthly hope is lost,
When our hearts are weary,
When the sting of hurtful words lingers,
When our bodies succumb to a fallen world – breaking, sickening, aging,
When what we prayed for is not answered as we hoped,
When we feel alone.
For ten thousand, thousand when’s and more:
You are the bringer of light.
Each morning as your fingers paint the sky with color,
So you grant new mercies to us.
You brought Jesus the Light into the world,
And through Him you still bring light into the world
And into our hearts.
You are the only answer
to our sinful, broken hearts,
And you bring light into our dark places.
For it is you who light my lamp;
the Lord my God lightens my darkness. ~ Psalm 18:28
