When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. ~ Exodus 34:29-30
I think we all understand on an intellectual level that spending time with God is good for us. Life and its distractions, the devil and his schemes, and sometimes just our own selfishness (or lack of discipline) thwart our attempts.
But, when we, like Moses, spend time with God – when we make a concerted effort to place ourselves in His presence – we change, for the better. In fact, sometimes we change without realizing it – like Moses, who “did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.” I think perhaps, Moses did not realize the change because he was no longer thinking of himself. He was thinking of God and His words.
So, although our faces may not shine physically, our hearts are realigned when we place ourselves intentionally in the presence of God. Though our clothes and physical appearance may not be any different, we are always changed after time spent with Him.
Will you come into God’s presence today? Will you let Him change you, heart deep and life altering? He is waiting, for you and for me.
