My dad once said, “By nature we were made creatures of God; by grace, we are made children of God.”
There is a world of difference between paternity and fatherhood. God is our father – and we are his children. This was not an accident – “Oh, I didn’t realize this would happen!” This is not a forced responsibility, a coercion. God chose a way for us to become his children.
What great love!
We have a father. Even if you have a good, Godly earthly daddy. Even if you grew up without a dad. Even if your dad made terrible mistakes or was just an ordinary guy.
We have a father. Can I share just a few beautiful parts of His fatherhood?
We have a father who loves us.
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. ~ 1 John 3:1A
We have a father who grants an unimaginable inheritance.
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. ~ Romans 8:16-17
We have a father who has freed us (we are no longer slaves).
And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. ~ Galatians 4:6-7
We have a father whom we can cry out to.
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” ~ Romans 8:15
We have a father who will never, never leave us.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” ~ Hebrews 13:5-6
We have a father – a wonderful, forgiving, beautiful, loving, and forgiving father.
The question is – have we submitted to Him as His children?
