Acrostic Psalms

In our ladies class on Wednesday nights, we have been studying the Psalms. There are nine psalms written in acrostic form (ie each line starts with a certain letter). Here is an English alphabetic acrostic I wrote…It is a rewarding (and challenging) exercise for each of our prayer lives!

All I’ve ever needed – or ever will need – is found in you.

But my heart wrestles with worries and fears and burdens I too often hold tighter than your love.

Clarify my vision. Help me see the invisible.

Do not turn your face from me. Let me sit in the light of your presence.

Even when my heart is turbulent, you are steadfast.

Forever you are my rock and my refuge.

God, you are my God. I surrender myself again to you.

Help me. I do not know where to step without you.

In you alone is forgiveness. In you alone is hope.

Just as the rain washes the earth, so wash my soul, so I can be new again.

Keep me safe near your side. Hold me tight and never let me go.

Let me lay my head on your knee and rest quietly beside you.

Make me yours alone. Make my heart like yours, Lord.

Nothing on earth can fill my heart’s deepest desires.

Only you Lord are enough. Only you, Lord, know my deepest self. Only you have seen me every step of my life.

Please guide my future as you have my past.

Quiet my heart; then my words and actions will follow. Let wisdom and gentleness drop from my lips. Let love and kindness direct my hands.

Rich is your love, your mercy, your grace. Money can never buy such gain.

Sweep over my thirsty soul and fill me with your spirit.

Truly you are beautiful and the source of all that is good in my life.

Under your wings do I find sweet sleep.

Victory over Satan you have already won. Help me remember your might.

When I am afraid, help me look to you.

X(Accept) my meager offerings – my heart, my life, my self. I am yours.

You be the light that shines through my life, through my broken pieces, through my weaknesses.

Zion seems far off; Lord, let it be my home one day.

Amen
