Small Steps

I walked against the wind today. I’m sure the sight must have been comical to any who might have watched. I am not a particularly big person, and the twenty mph gusts of Oklahoma wind almost halted my progress for a stretch! My head was down, my nose dripping, and my feet shuffling. I expended a great deal of effort for not very much forward progress.

That’s sometimes how the Christian walk is. Yes, there are days we walk in heavenly sunlight (and we should thank God for those times). But there are also times when the world or people or any number of factors push against us. Even with our best efforts, it’s hard to see the woefully small progress we have made.

But we cannot give up. The Lord does not demand a certain quota on our progress but instead requires us to be faithful, to stick the course, to persevere.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. ~ James 1:12

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. ~ Galatians 6:9

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. ~ Hebrews 2:1

When times are difficult, don’t give in. Your steps don’t have to be big; they just need to be in the right direction.
