Lived in Love

Lord,
Time falls fast through my fingers,
Uncatchable as the wind.
There seems little time to sit and be still,
To tuck treasures and moments in my heart,
And I don’t want to miss the beauty of these days,
Golden moments squandered in hurry and stress.

I want to sit in the sunshine and sip tea and hot chocolate with my children.
I want to read just one more chapter
And experience the joy of story with my children.
I want to listen to their burgeoning thoughts, their giggles, their struggles.

I want to live this one life well.
It is all you grant,
And I don’t get the time back.

I want to sit on the porch with friends
And talk of things that matter.
I want to have time to listen to the songs of the wind in the trees.
I want to love – truly love – my love even while we are in the fullness of the summer of our lives.

I want to know you, Father,
To glimpse your face,
To have all my insecurities find their resting place in You,
To have Your wisdom be what spills from my heart
And not my own sinfulness.
To know better the beauty and depth of Your love.

I long for a heart after your own heart, Lord.
And I cannot do it…
Without you.
Help me each day, each moment,
So that whenever the day comes that you gently take me home,
We can both look over my days and see a life that was lived in love

For you.
