Our Meager Offerings

Some days are prone to doubt and insecurity.

  • Am I doing enough——?
  • Have I given ——–?
  • What about ——–?

The weight of our responsibilities and the striving to walk the Christian way drives us to our knees. I am not enough for this task. I am, in fact, woefully inadequate. I am weary, mistake prone, insufficient.

But You, Lord, are not.

You never grow weary.

Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
~ Isaiah 40:28

Your wisdom is unsearchable.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! ~ Romans 11:33

Your love never quits.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 8:38-39

You have not asked me to be sufficient for the task. Instead, you have asked me to trust you in my weakness and struggles. You are not surprised by my wrestlings. You are waiting for me to lean hard on your grace. My falterings are when your beauty can be seen. It’s the broken pot that lets the light shine through.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9

But I must first submit my spirit, humble my prideful heart, cease my strivings.

Like the little boy centuries ago, I must give up my meager offering – my plain loaves and stinky fish – trusting that your providence will be far more than enough. And in the end, what you give will feed not just my physical body – you will feed my heart and restore my soul.

He restores my soul…
~ Psalm 23:1

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. ~ John 6:35
