Amid the gentle falling rain,
I finally quiet my heart.
I am still before you.
Your presence wraps around me,
A warm blanket,
Security.
You are here
In the low rumble of thunder,
In the steady music of raindrops,
In the bird song that endures throughout summer storms.
I breathe in the scent of wet earth and new leaves,
An anchoring back to the earth you formed with your hands.
I reach out my hands,
Uncurling fists tight with the burdens of my heart.
Oh, that I could feel the warm clasp of your hand in mine!
But instead
I find your presence in all around me – every fiber, every facet is infused with You, Your spirit.
I lift my face to you,
Turning from the hurts, the cares, the weight,
And I discover
That You are here now, this very moment.
You have been beside me all along,
Every step,
Every breath,
Every falter.
You are the one who heals my heart,
Who wipes it clean,
Time after time,
And who still loves me.
You, Abba, have never left,
And I have never been alone.
You, O Lord, are my portion,
My heart’s desire.
And you, Lord, are enough –
More than enough.
Let my gaze be unfalteringly, unswervingly on you.
