Good Advice

To open Bible class last night, I asked the kids to think of two examples: someone that would give good advice and someone that would give foolish (or not worthwhile) advice. Here are some of their answers:

Those that would give good advice: moms, teachers, preachers, other Christians, Jesus

Those that would not give good advice: unbelievers, younger siblings, bullies, your peers, and humans in general (because even the ones who give good advice are still fallible – they are not God).

I have always been amazed at how insightful children are. Of course, it is wise to seek good counsel. It is wise to seek other Christians’ help. The wise man puts it like this:

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice. ~ Proverbs 12:15

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. ~ Proverbs 19:20

But the best counsel, the best listener, will always be the Lord.

Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
~ Psalm 62:8

Your testimonies are my delight;
they are my counselors.
~ Psalm 119:24
