We all realize at some level how fickle our hearts are. The Lord says it like this:
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? ~ Jeremiah 17:9
Our hearts are unreliable.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. ~ Psalm 73:26
Our hearts are inadequate for what we face. Only the Lord is sufficient.
But sometimes.
Sometimes our hearts stirs us to good. They are tender to the urging of the Spirit. They are touched by compassion for the hurting. They are prompted to do good for the needy. They are filled with love for the broken – as well as for the holy and beautiful.
All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the Lord. ~ Exodus 35:29
Our hearts, at those times are a dim mirror, learning to reflect however poorly, a portion of the Lord and his goodness. May we all seek to have hearts like his, hearts moved to do what he has called us to.
