When You’re Weary

I was talking with a friend the other day, and she remarked how by the time it reaches Friday night, she’s simply spent. I think, no matter how old we get, we still grow weary. It is the nature of humanity. We are not made to continue indefinitely. Our reserves and our wills give out.

Knowing this, what do we do when we’re weary? The obvious answer of course is rest! But perhaps, we might also dwell on some scriptures:

Scriptures to Dwell on When We’re Weary

And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14

May the Lord give strength to his people!
    May the Lord bless his people with peace! ~ Psalm 29:11

from the end of the earth I call to you
    when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
    that is higher than I….

Let me dwell in your tent forever!
    Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!

Psalm 61:2,4

Truly my soul finds rest in God;
    my salvation comes from him.

Psalm 62:1 (NIV)

Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
    and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
    and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. ~ Galatians 6:9

 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. ~ Hebrews 4:16

May we each dwell on his infinite strength when our hearts and bodies grow weary. He will carry us through.
