Happy the Home

There is a saying: “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.” The Wise Man puts it like this:

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is
    than a fattened ox and hatred with it. ~ Proverbs 15:17

It is better to live in a corner of the housetop
    than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife. ~ Proverbs 21:9

Like it or not, I am most often the emotional barometer of my home. My moods and attitudes directly affect my husband, my children and any who cross the threshold.

I can choose to rush and be busy. Or I can choose to slow down and listen.

I can choose to allow circumstances to dictate my irritability. Or I can choose the peace from knowing that God is ultimately in control.

I can choose to nag and complain. Or I can choose words that build up and teach.

I can choose to allow others’ comments or opinions to drive my actions. Or I can choose to rest in following the Lord’s commands.

I can choose. Every day, every moment. In the sunshiny days and in the hard ones. And I can learn to walk better in His footsteps with His help.

Happy the home when God is there,
And love fills every breast;
When one their wish, and one their prayer,
And one their heav’nly rest. ~ Henry Ware
