Help in Times of Need

My dad always encouraged me to write. It was twofold. First, I think he may have been my biggest fan. But for whatever reason, he also felt that it was a talent of mine – and as such, it should be developed, especially in light of the Kingdom.

I think I will probably be writing about my dad, for many years to come. But today, I wanted to share something much more powerful than my own writing.

These are Scriptures. Scriptures sent by those who mourn with me. Scriptures written out by those who have reached out with comfort. Scriptures that I have read in some of Dad’s old lessons.

They have helped my sore and broken heart. Perhaps they can help yours too.

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.
~Job 1:21b

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. ~ Psalm 116:15

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. ~Matthew 5:4

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. ~Psalm 147:3

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love God in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 8:38-39

The Lord Your God is in Your midst,
A mighty one who will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness;
He will quiet you by His love;
He will exult over you with loud singing.
~Zephaniah 3:17

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
    and he will make straight your paths.
~Proverbs 3:5-6

And finally, the one I keep returning to. The one that makes me long even more for that beautiful Resurrection day:

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope ~ 1 Thessalonians 4:13

We have a hope – not just of seeing those who have gone on before, who are waiting for us. We have a hope that we get to see Jesus, face to face. And that, my friends, is “better than we deserve.”

  1. Writing seems to be healing to our hearts and you do it so well. You sharing your sadness will strengthen others. When my Dad died, I wish I had written down my thoughts. But especially concentrating on scripture like you are doing is the way to find refuge and peace. Blessings on you, beautiful lady. Love you
